A Night of Firsts: The Winter Concert Shines Bright

LFC Singing Eagles

December brought a special kind of magic as the stage lit up for the Winter Concert, a night that celebrated new beginnings and unforgettable talent. Two brand-new student performance groups made their debut, each leaving their mark on the audience.

The Singing Eagles, a choir of 3rd through 5th graders, opened the evening with a collection of holiday melodies. Under the guidance of Mrs. Bierria, their voices blended in perfect harmony, filling the room with a warmth that could only come from young hearts pouring themselves into every note.

Then came the Stepping Eagles, a group of 3rd and 4th graders whose electrifying performance, choreographed by Ms. Holmes drew inspiration from the rich tradition of HBCU step teams.

Together, the Singing Eagles and the Stepping Eagles reminded us all of the beauty of trying something new, the courage it takes to step into the spotlight, and the incredible things that happen when talent meets hard work.

Big thanks to Mrs. Bierria, Ms. Holmes, and every student who made the Winter Concert a night to remember. The Singing Eagles and the Stepping Eagles have set the bar high, and we can’t wait to see where their journeys take them next.

Dreaming in Color: A Celebration of Art, Culture, and Community

The To Dream in Color exhibition invited our community to explore Dr. King’s dream through the lens of art and culture. Students poured their hearts into creating works that reflected their understanding of justice, equality, and hope, while also paying homage to the unique spirit of our city. The event was a resounding success, drawing an overwhelming turnout from the community, a testament to the power of art to unite and inspire.

But the celebration didn’t stop at visual art. Under the guidance of our talented drama teacher, Ms. Nicole Washington, students took to the stage to perform Echoes of New Orleans, an original play that wove together themes of courage, perseverance, and the enduring heartbeat of our city. Written and directed by Ms. Washington, the play was a love letter to New Orleans, capturing its resilience, its rhythm, and its soul. The audience was moved, not just by the performances, but by the way our students embodied the spirit of the stories they told.

Adding to the evening’s brilliance, the LFC Eaglettes Dance Team, coordinated by Ms. Tawanda Crayton, delivered a performance that brought energy and grace. Their celebration of movement and expression, perfectly complementing the evening’s themes. Meanwhile, the LFC Orchestra Band, instructed by Mr. Lawrence Rawlins, melodies weaved through the event, elevating the moment.

We’re deeply grateful for the grant that made this possible. It wasn’t just funding; it was an investment in our students, in their creativity, and in the cultural fabric of our city.As we look ahead, we’re reminded that Dr. King’s dream is not just an idea, it's a call to action. Through art, performance, and community dialogue, we’re committed to keeping that dream alive, one brushstroke, one story, and melody at a time.

Grace and Strength: LFC Welcomes the Lunar New Year

This year, LFC students embraced the rich traditions of the Lunar New Year with a celebratory performance: the Fan Dance and Lion Dance, each carrying its own symbolism and significance.

The Fan Dance, with its graceful, flowing movements, captured the beauty and tranquility of the New Year. The lion, adorned in bold red and yellow colors symbolizes strength, power, and prosperity.

Honoring Heritage: A Black History Month Assembly to Remember

LFC came together this year for a special Black History Month assembly. There was a celebration of culture, history, and unity. Our Singing Eagles filled the room with soulful melodies and The Stepping Eagles followed. The assembly closed with the LFC Young Men of Standard, whose powerful performance of Black Men Rising left the audience inspired.

Curiosity and Innovation: Eagles Soar at the 2025 Science Fair

When it comes to a passion for discovery our Eagles are in a league of their own. This year, they proved it at the 2025 Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair, held at Tulane University. Out of 45 participants, 33 walked away with awards, a testament to the hard work, ingenuity, and determination that define our school community.

The awards ceremony, held at Tulane’s Lavin-Bernick Center on February 24, was a moment of pride for everyone involved and a reflection of LFC’s culture that values curiosity and encourages exploration. It’s also a reminder of the incredible support system behind these students: the teachers who guided them, and the families who encouraged them. Our students have shown that they have what it takes to tackle the challenges of tomorrow, and we couldn’t be prouder.

A Season of Grit, Growth, and Glory: LFC Basketball Teams Soar

The 2025 basketball season wasn’t just about wins and losses, it was a testament to resilience and unity. The season’s defining moment came during the N.O.R.D Middle School Championship game, where the 5th & 6th grade boys’ team faced off against Bethune Charter. Both teams shared the Eagles mascot, but only one could claim the crown.

Trailing by 7 points in the fourth quarter, the game seemed all but over. But with three minutes left, Coach Guidry’s timeout sparked a fire. What followed was a stunning 9-0 run, capped by a championship clinching basket that sealed a 29-24 victory. The crowd erupted, and the players proved that no deficit is too great when a team believes in itself. Cam Barker, the league’s MVP, led the charge, but it was the collective effort of every player that turned the tide. The 5th & 6th grade boys finished their season undefeated (5-0), with dominant performances against Moton, Laurel, Bethune, and Schaumburg. Meanwhile, the 8th grade boys’ team battled their way to a 3-3 record, with standout wins against St. Matthews and John Curtis proving their potential to compete with the best.

The success didn’t stop there. The 8th grade girls’ team mirrored that same unyielding spirit, finishing their season with a perfect 5-0 record. Their games were a masterclass in perseverance, with close victories against Bricolage (9-8) and Deloris T Aaron (14-13) showcasing their ability to stay cool under pressure. What made this season special wasn’t just the trophies or the stats, it was the way these teams embodied the values of LFC.

A Night of Beads, Beats, and Big Smiles: The Mardi Gras Mambo Dance

The magic of Mardi Gras found its way in our annual Mardi Gras Mambo Dance. The Eagle cafe was transformed by PTO into a festive wonderland of purple, green, and gold, setting the stage for an evening of dancing for our 3rd through 5th graders. Teachers, and volunteers came together to create an experience that felt like a slice of uptown New Orleans right here at school.

100 Days Brighter: Kindergarten’s Milestone Moment

Our annual 100 days of school was celebrated by our LFC kindergarteners. Our kindergarteners along with their parents create Mardi Gras floats with the theme relating to their completion of 100 days of school. Many of our students dress as senior citizens who are 100 years old while pulling beautiful floats representing various topics on 100 days of completion.
