Lake Forest’s Robotics team, called the ROBOEagles, build a robot that can automatically navigate a course and accomplish 12 “missions” related to the year’s scientific investigation within 2.5 minutes. They program the robot using a laptop computer and a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) on the robot. Also, they formulate a project presentation focused on the team’s investigation. Prior to this, the team will have consulted with professionals in the field to obtain their input regarding the credibility of their project.
1. Robot Game – Teams build and program an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS technology to score points in 2.5-minute matches on a themed playing field.
2. Project – Teams explore an actual problem that today’s scientists and engineers are trying to solve, develop an innovative solution to that problem (either by creating something that doesn’t exist or building upon something that does), and present their findings.
3. The First Lego League (FLL) Core Values are the fundamental elements that distinguish FLL from other programs of its kind. Participants learn that friendly competition and mutual gain are not separate goals, and that helping one another is the foundation of teamwork.
